Anyone who imports pre-packaged commodities or goods in India must take LMPC Registration Certificate before importing any pre-packaged goods or commodities in India under rule 27 of Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity rules of Department of Consumer Affairs. The registration must be applied within 90 days from the date when the import has been started.
Importers of the pre-packaged goods mostly need the LMPC certificate at the customs.
There are 2 types of LMPC/Importer licenses. Both the State Government and the Central Government have the authority to issue LMPC registration.
The Department of Consumers Affairs is the governing body that issues the LMPC import license to the importers of pre-packaged commodities.
The total cost of LMPC Registtraion is INR 5,000/- only. The Govt fee for LMPC registration is ₹ 500, while the professional fee LMPC consultation is INR 4,499/- only.icense- The applicant must apply for registration with the Central Government if he intends to sell the pre-packaged product in more than one state.
Legal Metrology Act prescribes laws regarding manufacturing, selling and repairing weights and measures. It requires the manufacturers, dealers, and repairers to get registration under this Act.
A packaged commodity requires an LMPC Certificate for the Manufacturers, Importers, and Packers. It ensures compliance regarding the declarations on the packaging and the usage of standard weights.
